KUCHING, Aug 3: Five roundabouts in Kota Samarahan form a perfect pentagon when viewed from the air and on Google Maps, leading to speculation that it is an intended creation of town planning architects.
The five roundabouts are the one in front of Kampung Baru of Kota Samarahan, the one near Autonomous Rapid Transit Depo, the one adjacent to Wellmetech Pharmaceutical, the roundabout just beside Sarawak Risda office and the one just next to Samarahan Post Office.
Within the ‘hidden’ pentagon, there are six more smaller and perfectly-divided pentagons, all of which are linked by spur roads of the same distance.
The Al-Muttaqin Mosque sits right in the middle of the central pentagon, making it a unique sight, especially from a bird’s eye view.
According to Kota Samarahan Municipal Council chairman Datuk Peter Minos, the pentagon-shaped area is indeed planned as an industrial area for Samarahan District and earmarked for manufacturing and industrial purposes.
“Currently, there is still not much there yet. Many are asking about it but there has been yet to be concrete proposals on industrial projects. — DayakDaily
