SIBU, May 17: Newly appointed Pemanca for the Chinese community in Sibu Division, Datuk Jason Tai’s main priority is to help the State Government curb the spread of Covid-19.

Speaking to reporters after receiving his letter of appointment today, Tai, who is the managing director of Pansar Holdings Berhad, listed out two foremost items that he would do.

“As Covid-19 is in our midst, I will get the people to adhere strictly to the standard operating prosecures (SOPs) at all times. I will also encourage the people to go for the vaccine,” he said.

He added that when the pandemic situation had improved later on, he would work closely with the paramount Chinese community leader, Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau on community development work.

“I will work closely with Datuk together with Kapitan and Penghulu on community programmes not only for the Chinese community but also for the other races,” he said.

Tai, 58, received the letter of appointment from Sibu Division Resident Wong Hee Sieng. The ceremony was witnessed by Assistant Minister of Housing and Local Government Dr Annuar Rapaee.

His appointment is from 2021-2024.

Meanwhile Dr Annuar in his brief address, urged community leaders to encourage people to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

He said this was because there are still more than 94,000 people in the district who have yet to register for the vaccine.

Among those present at the event were Lau and Senator Robert Lau. — DayakDaily
