MIRI, Aug 24: A total of RM41.277 million has been disbursed to 13,759 eligible heirs of Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) holders in death compassionate assistance as of July 31 this year, says Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.
The ‘Death Compassionate Assistance’ is one of the benefits of the KGC, only for the next-of-kin of card holders who have passed away.
“The assistance offers RM3,000 to cover funeral expenses upon the death of card holders,” Fatimah disclosed on Thursday in Miri during an engagement session here with local community leaders on the aging population.
Also present was Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development deputy minister Datuk Rosey Yunus.
Fatimah also disclosed that a total of 272,357 KGC cards have been printed as of July 31 this year.
“The establishment of KGC card is one of the Sarawak’s government initiatives to help our senior citizens as it give them benefits like death compassionate assistance, discounts on purchases provided by participating merchants from the private sectors and soon medical benefits and annual tokens,” Fatimah pointed out. — DayakDaily
