KUCHING, Sept 16: Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected in several parts of Sarawak this evening, with the alert in effect until 9pm tonight (Sept 16).
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the affected areas in Sarawak are Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song and Kapit), Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang.
The warning was issued at 4.50pm, with the public urged to remain vigilant and plan their movements carefully during this period.
MetMalaysia noted that such warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rain intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, potentially accompanied by strong winds.
The department further explained that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert, valid for no longer than six hours per issuance. — DayakDaily
