Health Ministry allocates RM150 mln for upgrading 403 dilapidated clinics nationwide

KUCHING, Aug 1: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has approved a budget of RM150 million for the renovation of 403 dilapidated clinics across Malaysia.

According to a TVS news report, Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said this initiative is part of the ‘Rehabilitation and Upgrade of Dilapidated Clinics/Health Facilities’ project led by the MOH.

“As of July 1, 2024, a total of 81 projects (20.1 per cent) have been successfully completed while 319 projects (79.2 per cent) are being implemented and three projects or 0.7 per cent are still in the pre-implementation phase,” he was quoted as saying.

Lukanisman was responding to a question from Senator Datuk Aziz Ariffin in the Dewan Negara today.

Senator Aziz had inquired about the measures being taken by the MoH to ensure that all health assets are well-maintained to provide optimal healthcare services to the public, and the number of dilapidated health clinics identified.

Further elaborating, Lukanisman stated that 201 health clinics nationwide have been selected for maintenance under the Clinic Support Services (CSS) programme, with a five-year contract from 2022 to 2027 at an annual cost of RM137 million.

Additionally, he noted that the MOH appointed a concession company under the Hospital Support Services (HSS) programme in hospitals and the Medical Equipment Enhancement Tenure (MEET) programme in MOH clinics to provide comprehensive maintenance services.

“The HSS programme involves 148 MOH hospitals nationwide, while the MEET programme includes all health and dental clinics in Penang, Perak, Selangor, the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan,” he added. — DayakDaily
