KUCHING, July 11: The Ministry of Health (MOH) has suffered losses amounting to RM185 million from expired Covid-19 vaccines.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the ministry had disposed of more than 9.15 million doses of expired vaccines at its facilities and the Covid-19 vaccine storage warehouse as of June 11, 2024.
He said 10.8 per cent of vaccine doses received by the government were expired, some of which due to issues like logistics and storage.
According to a news report by TVS, Dzulkefly said the government will be implementing best practices and certain benchmarks in future procurement of vaccines after the last pandemic.
He said there were no standard operating procedures (SOPs), best practices or benchmarks in place for the government to follow during the Covid-19 period.
“I understand that there is a surplus because the competition to get the (Covid-19) vaccine was fierce at the time,” he told the Parliament during the question and answer (Q&A) session today.
Dzulkefly was answering a question from Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias on the actual number of Covid-19 vaccines that had been disposed of and the estimated loss borne by the government. — DayakDaily
