LAWAS, Aug 3: A search and rescue operation (SAR) is underway at Kampung Tang Sango B, here, for a 47-year-old handicapped man who was reported missing by his father.

According to Lawas Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Zaki Hussin, village chief Paulus Parir said his missing son, Wellin Paulus, was last seen by family members at 8pm two days ago.

Paulus and fellow villagers tried to find Wellin, who has difficulties in hearing, on the same evening but failed to locate him, prompting them to lodge a police report yesterday evening.

A team of firefighters led by Celica Thomas Midarek were dispatched to the location where Wellin was last seen. They also set up a control station post and spent the night in that area.

This morning, another team of firefighters led by Mclean Madis were dispatched to village, located about 43km away from Lawas town, to assist in the second day SAR operations.

As at 11am today, Bomba Sarawak operations centre (PGO) is unable to contact the team for updates due to zero telecommunication coverage in the area. — DayakDaily
