Hair donation campaign launched in support of cancer patients

“Give Your Locks, Give them Hope”

KUCHING, Jan 18: Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness, Kuching (Scan) has launched its first ever hair donation campaign in support of cancer patients.

The fundraising event ‘Give Your Locks, Give Them Hope’ is in conjunction with World Cancer Day (WCD) 2022.

Scan president Sew Boon Lui said the campaign aims to raise public awareness for cancer patient support by collecting donated locks of hair that will be turned into wigs for patients who have lost their hair as a result of chemotherapy.

Apart from the donated locks of hair, Sew said Scan is also appealing to the public to support the hair donors’ act of kindness by donating cash which will be used to fund the cost incurred for turning the hair into wigs.

“We hope to gather at least 100 hair donor fundraisers and to raise a minimum of RM150,000 and we are working with two hairdressers and salons in Kuching, one in Sibu and another in Miri who have been engaged as our hair salon partners.

“We look forward to the public’s great support and participation,” Sew said in a statement.

Scan is collaborating with Locks of Hope Association for the event.

Part of the proceeds will also be used to support Scan’s activities of advocacy and awareness in line with WCD theme of ‘Close the Care Gap’.

Scan also operates a helpline at 082-387077 and patients or caregivers who need someone to talk to may call the hotline Tuesdays to Fridays at 2pm to 5pm or send a WhatsApp message at other times.

Scan was established to become the unified voice for all cancer patients to improve access to high-quality public health care and to create cancer awareness to the general public to increase survival.
