KUCHING, Sept 14: The Magistrate’s Court has imposed a penalty of RM2,000 or three months’ imprisonment on a local man for stealing two sheets of zinc roofing from his mother’s old house.
Willie Nyuai, 36, pleaded guilty to the charge read by the interpreter before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
According to the charge, he was accused of stealing zinc roofing from his 60-year-old mother’s old kitchen house in Taman Desa Wira, Batu Kawah, around 6.30pm on Sept 13.
Willie was charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years in prison, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Based on the facts of the case, at the time of the incident, the complainant, who is the accused’s sibling, heard noises from the house next to their mother’s residence.
The complainant saw his brother removing the zinc roofing from their mother’s old kitchen house. The complainant also discovered that the accused had tied the stolen zinc roofing sheets, apparently intending to sell them.
The accused had a history of taking items from the house for sale. Despite repeated warnings from the complainant and their family not to engage in such activities, the accused continued to defy them.
Concerned that this behavior would persist and potentially cause significant damage to their mother’s house, the complainant decided to report the matter to the police.
The accused was subsequently apprehended by the police at the residence in Batu Kawah on Sept 14.
The prosecution was led by ASP Rogayah Rosli while the accused was not represented. — DayakDaily
