KUCHING, Aug 21: A man was sentenced to five years in prison and two strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here today for repeated drug-related offenses.
Mohammad Zulhaffizan Noor, 29, from Kampung Tupong Ulu, pleaded guilty before Judge Maris Agan after being charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same act.
The relevant section stipulates a prison sentence of no less than five years and no more than seven years, along with the possibility of receiving up to three strokes of the cane upon conviction.
According to the charge, the accused, who had been previously convicted twice under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 in 2021, once again faced charges of administering amphetamine and methamphetamine.
The offense was said to have taken place at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department office of the Kuching District Police Headquarters on February 27, 2023, around 1.25pm.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian, while the accused was not represented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
