KUCHING, Dec 13: Sarawak hammer thrower Grace Wong’s gold medal triumph at the SEA Games 2025 will be rewarded, says Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Congratulating Grace on her achievement, Abdul Karim said the athlete had delivered a peak performance at the regional Games after being advised to step up following her appearance at the Malaysia Games (Sukma).
“She performed very well to win the gold medal and broke the national record four times. That is a remarkable achievement,” he told reporters when met at Fenomena Samurai Concert held at Indoor Stadium Petra Jaya here this evening.
He said Grace’s success should serve as motivation for other Malaysian athletes to strive for similar achievements on the international stage.

On incentives, Abdul Karim confirmed that both the federal government and the Sarawak government will provide rewards for medal-winning athletes.
“There will be incentives. The federal government will give, and the Sarawak government will also give,” he said.
He added that Sarawak athletes had also received financial assistance before departing for the SEA Games to support their preparations.
“We gave them some pocket money from Sarawak before they left,” he said.
Grace recently clinched the women’s hammer throw gold at the SEA Games 2025 after delivering a dominant performance in the final.
She shattered the national record four times during the competition, sealing Malaysia’s gold in emphatic fashion and marking one of Sarawak’s standout moments at the regional sporting meet. — DayakDaily
