SIBU, Nov 20: Defeated Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P211 Lanang, Wong Ching Yong, today went around the town thanking voters for their support in the 15th General Election (GE15).

According to him, even though he lost the election, he did not lose his spirit to continue serving the people.

“I was defeated by Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate Alice Lau. However, I still need to thank my supporters, team, and family members who gave me unceasing support throughout the election campaign. You are all the best,” he said to reporters at the Central Market.

He is grateful for the votes he got, which shows that the people still need GPS to serve.

Meanwhile, he invited Lau to set up satellite heart and cancer centres for Sibu and ensure that the UEC certificate for Chinese private schools is recognised as promised by Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“I congratulate Alice and pray that she will always be blessed with her family as long as she represents the people in Lanang. Good luck to her. Now it’s time for me to go back to my normal routine and rest,” he added.

In the election, Wong lost with a majority of 11,554 votes. He collected 18,576 votes, while Lau got 30,120 votes.

Two other candidates who lost their deposit, namely Priscilla Lau from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), got 3,663 votes, and Independent candidate Dato Wong Tiing Kiong, who only got 587 votes. — DayakDaily
