KUCHING, Dec 7: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will not have a problem in securing a two-thirds seat majority in the 12th Sarawak Election, says Asajaya incumbent Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He noted that this year’s election will see 248 candidates vying for the 82 seats throughout Sarawak, however he opined that only Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) can be considered as competition to GPS.

“I am not trying to assert arrogance or underestimate the other Opposition parties but they are mostly ‘rebranded’ parties and I think these sort of parties will not get any seats,” he said during a virtual political talk held by Jiwa Bakti today.

Asked to comment on certain seats which may be a concern to GPS, he believed that Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will be able to retain all the seats but he cannot say the same about the other GPS component parties – Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).

“I do not look down on them but we are aware that some of the seats are in ‘grey areas’. Therefore, it is possible for us to lose some seats, probably up to 10, but we (GPS) will be able to achieve absolute victory in total.

“Additionally, at least one independent candidate might win a seat while PSB and DAP might win some seats,” said the PBB vice president. – DayakDaily
