GPS was heeding King’s decree to form unity govt, not cos convinced by any party, PBB Youth chief tells Chong

KUCHING, Dec 4: When Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) decided to support Pakatan Harapan (PH), it was heeding the King’s decree in forming a unity government, and not because it was convinced by any party, asserts Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth chief Miro Simuh.

Miro was responding to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s statement on Dec 3 that it was DAP which convinced GPS to change its initial support from Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister to Pakatan Harapan (PH) chief Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“We seek to clarify that after the end of the 15th General Election (GE15), there was no clear majority from contesting parties for them to form a federal government.

“This was taken into consideration by His Majesty, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and with his wisdom, he decreed that a unity government must be formed to settle the political impasse.

“GPS, being a coalition that abides by the National Principles (‘Rukun Negara’) –pledging loyalty to the King and Country, heeded this decree by His Majesty,” said Miro in a statement today.

A stable federal government is needed for economic recovery, he added, and GPS is fulfilling its responsibility by setting aside differences to work together with parties across the political divide.

He said hopefully the present unity government would stabilise Malaysia’s politic scenario and accelerate the nation’s economic recovery amid global uncertainties.

“We also hope that with a strong representation by Sarawak in the federal government, it too will facilitate the return of more rights to Sarawak as enshrined under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report 1962,” Miro added. — DayakDaily
