KUCHING, April 29: While Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg refuses to reveal which party he will support in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15), he says Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) wants a stable Federal government.
“As far as GPS is concerned, we want a stable Federal government, so the whole country can move forward,” he said when interviewed by The Straits Times Singapore on Wednesday (April 27).
He also said that Barison Nasional’s (BN) wins in the Melaka and Johor state elections cannot determine the outcome of a general election as voter sentiment may differ at state and national levels.
Abang Johari, who is also GPS chairman and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president, said leaders of Pakatan Harapan (PH) have been friends with himself too.
“Let’s see how it goes,” he said, according to a news report by The Straits Times Singapore yesterday (April 28).
Sarawak, which contributes to 31 lawmakers to Parliament, has always been the kingmaker; a crucial role in determining the government of the day.
GE15 needs to be held only by 2023, but with the uncertain political landscape in Peninsular Malaysia currently, it is expected as soon as this year. — DayakDaily
