KUCHING, Aug 19: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will be seeking approval to update its logo for use during the coming state election due in 2021.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing said the minor update would include the letters ‘GPS’ below the existing ‘kenyalang’ (hornbill) logo so that voters would be able to differentiate it from other political parties that are also using ‘kenyalang’ motifs in their logos.
“We will be seeking endorsement from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on our new logo. Our previous logo was just the ‘kenyalang’. But we want to put ‘GPS’ letters below it.
“It will be sent to RoS as soon as possible. It will be used for the state election, on the ballot paper, it will be there.
“The reason being because now more and more people are literate. Last time we were using ‘dacing’ (weighing scales which was the logo for Barisan Nasional) so voters then would just call it ‘dacing’.
“We thought the ‘kenyalang’ would be enough but now we see many other ‘kenyalang’ flying around in Sarawak,” he told reporters after attending the GPS Supreme Leadership Council Meeting here this afternoon.
“To differentiate us from other ‘kenyalang’ flying in Sarawak, we (will) put GPS below our ‘kenyalang’ logo.”
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and leaders from all GPS component parties and their secretary-generals were in attendance. — DayakDaily
