KUCHING, Dec 10: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will launch the eighth Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS 8.0) if they stay in government after polling day on Dec 18.

This was brought up by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during a townhall session at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

He was responding to Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Council (DUBS) president Datu Haji Abang Helmi Ikhwan, who requested on behalf of all Bumiputera entrepreneurs, that the Sarawak government consider loosening the BKSS aid criteria and simplifying the application processes.

Abang Johari said DUBS’ kind proposal would be taken into consideration in BKSS 8.0 as the aid is aimed at helping those adversely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I will take Abang Helmi’s request into consideration because we will launch BKSS 8.0, hopefully after Dec 18, when we have the mandate,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said the number of Covid-19 cases in the State has dropped significantly although Sarawak is currently still in National Recovery Plan (NRP) Phase 3.

He thus foresees a transition into the fourth and last phase of NRP where the economy will be fully opened. — DayakDaily
