KUCHING, Nov 12: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) needs to win all 31 seats in the 15th General Election (GE15) to become a ‘playmaker’ in the Federal government, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Information chief Dato Idris Buang.

He said GE15 is different from previous parliamentary elections because it serves as a chance for GPS to represent Sarawak and have a say in the Federal government.

“There is no use to fight for Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) if the Federal government doesn’t see eye to eye with the State. Last time, we have our people there but they had very little say.

“This was because our voters especially the Chinese thought the State (government) we give to Sarawak party while the Peninsula (government), we give to Peninsula party. No, that is wrong.

“When we are weak in the Federal government, all the policies for Sarawak will become weak, all the funds are also weak and our ministers become ‘toothless’.

“To have power, we need to become the ‘playmaker’ in the Federal government. That is why we need 31 solid seats in Parliament,” he told reporters during a ‘chit chat’ session held at PBB Headquarters in Jalan Diplomatik here today.

He also mentioned that it will be a waste if the voters in the Chinese-majority constituencies continue to choose to vote for Democratic Action Party (DAP) or Pakatan Harapan (PH), likened their representatives to “dogs barking at the mountain”.

“The voters especially our Chinese brothers and sisters must change that mentality. We made that mistake in the past but now, give us that chance for Sarawak,” he added. — DayakDaily
