KUCHING, Nov 13: Management boards of Chinese aided schools can always forward their problems to the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
According to Uggah in a statement today, the Sarawak government is always ready to listen and do its part in assisting these schools.
“GPS under Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has a very inclusive policy.
“He is always ready to help all races. We in the government, we too appreciate the importance of Chinese aided schools,” he said.
Uggah said this when officiating at the annual dinner of eight Chinese aided schools in Betong Division last night.
Uggah, who is also the Bukit Saban assemblyman, pointed out that although they are Chinese schools, a sizeable segment of their student population are Bumiputera students.
“As such we view their development as our responsibility as well,” he added.
Meanwhile, Uggah said, in 2021, the State government had contributed grants totalling RM10 million to such schools State-wide.
“This year I understand the amount is RM12 million,” he said. — DayakDaily
