KUCHING, Dec 19: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) clean sweep of all the Bidayuh-majority seats in the Dec 18 polls shows that the community still want to remain with the government.

Bidayuh community leader for Kuching division Temenggong Austin Dimin Niyon said the Bidayuh are aware of the fact that only the government can bring development to the community.

“The Bidayuh want to be with the government that can bring development to the community.

“And for this reason, they voted for their elected representatives from the government (sic) in the Bidayuh areas,” Dimin said.

“Unlike in the past, where our elected representatives were in different political parties including the opposition, we are now very fortunate to be with the government to bring us development,” he stressed.

In the 12th Sarawak Election, all Bidayuh candidates fielded by GPS won their respective seats.

The seats are Opar (Billy Sujang), Tasik Biru (Dato Henry Harry Jinep), Serembu (Miro Simuh), Mambong (Datuk Dr Jerip Susil), Tarat (Datuk Roland Sagah Wee), Tebedu (Dr Simon Sinang Bada), Kedup (Martin Ben) and Bukit Semuja (John Ilus).

Except for Opar and Tebedu, where the winning candidates are new faces, the other six are incumbents.

In Opar, Billy contested under GPS against incumbent Datuk Ranum Mina from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), while Dr Sinang replaced incumbent Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong in Tebedu, after Manyin opted to retire from politics. — DayakDaily
