KUCHING, Jan 5: The Federal Government will provide additional funding to ministries and agencies that successfully slash infrastructure costs and construction timelines by 25 per cent, says Works Minister (KKR) Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi in a statement today.
According to him, the incentive is part of a fast-track directive under the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s 2026 address, designed to modernise Malaysia’s construction industry through the adoption of Industrialised Building System (IBS) and modular technology.
Speaking after a special assembly with Anwar, Nanta revealed that the government is offering flexibility for departments to bypass traditional, slower construction methods.
In a move to modernise the Malaysian construction industry, Nanta said that the government is offering flexibility and financial incentives for the adoption of faster construction methods, such as:
- Industrialised Building System (IBS)
- Modular Systems
- Ergonomic Construction Designs
“This approach is vital to shorten project durations, save costs, and elevate the quality of our infrastructure,” he said.
Meanwhile, as part of the ministry’s immediate priorities, Nanta confirmed that an RM2.4 billion allocation for small-scale projects under the G1 to G4 categories has been greenlit for immediate execution.
Nanta stressed that these projects must commence now rather than being pushed to subsequent quarters.
“This address was not merely a speech, but a clear set of operational directives. For the Ministry of Works, the message is unmistakable—implement immediately, swiftly, and with integrity,” read the statement.
Dismissing potential bureaucratic delays, the Minister issued a firm work order to his ministry, stipulating that projects must commence now with no deferment to later quarters.
He further mandated that all ministries, including KKR, must identify and formalise high-impact quick-win projects by a February 2026 deadline, while implementation will be accelerated at the state and district levels to ensure a rapid impact at the grassroots level.
Reflecting on the Prime Minister’s 2026 address, Nanta echoed the sentiment that the civil service remains the backbone of the nation.
“As the KKR minister, I will ensure that each of these directives is translated into action at the implementation level, so that development reaches the people, the economy continues to be driven forward, and confidence in the government’s capabilities is further strengthened,” he concluded. – DayakDaily
