KUCHING, July 3: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women chief, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has welcomed the assurance given by Bersatu and Pas that they will not contest in the coming 12th state election (PRN12).
“That is good news for us (PBB) because they will not fight Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), I think this is a very good understanding being reached,” she said during a press conference on the implementation of the State Unity Action Committee (JKTPN) at her office in the Bangunan Baitulmakmur, Petra Jaya, here today.
Fatimah who is also Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development was commenting on the statement by Deputy Chief Minister and president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Tan Sri Dr James Masing yesterday.
Masing said that he had received assurance from Bersatu president, who also the Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Pas president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang that the two parties will not contest in PRN12 although both have branches in Sarawak.
“At the national level, Pas and Bersatu form Pakatan Nasional (PN) and plus GPS. With this kind of understanding it is a win-win situation,” said Fatimah.
She said if Pas and Bersatu were to contest in the PRN12, then they would be fighting GPS and this will not a good situation for PN plus GPS.
However with the assurance, she was confident that this would only not happen but both of parties that have branches in the state could assist GPS in the coming state election. -DayakDaily
