GOF operations in Sibu seized over RM3m worth of items so far this year

SIBU, April 10: The Battalion 10 General Operations Force (GOF) here managed to seize items worth RM3,375,350 during Ops Libas and Ops Batas so far this year.

Its deputy commanding officer DSP Frediel Nyambong told reporters today that the latest raid was conducted at a log pond at Ulu Sg Uka, Poi, Kanowit, on Monday (April 8).


Eight GOF personnel and 12 enforcement personnel from the Sarawak Forestry Corporation arrested two individuals in the noon raid. They also seized excavators, bulldozers, chainsaws, welding genset, water pump and 260 logs of various species that were suspected to be illegally felled.

The arrests and seizures were made under the Sarawak Forestry Ordinance 2015.

In the first three months of this year, nine Ops Libas and one Ops Batas mounted by the GOF here were successful.
Of the nine cases under Ops Libas, five involved illegal logging, three involved contraband activities and one involved an illegal sawmill. The total haul was worth RM1,369,200.

From the one Ops Batas case, the raiding party managed to seize contraband items worth RM3,150.

In the first 10 days of this month, there were five successful Ops Libas raids, four involving illegal logging and one illegal sawmill. The total haul resulting from these five operations was RM2,003,000. — DayakDaily
