KUCHING, March 26: Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) vice president Dayang Juliana Abang Dalhan says that this year, GoBald targets to raise RM1 million and shave 350 heads.

She said that participants may sign up for GoBald 2023 from now until June 18 and they can choose to raise funds and shave their heads, or raise funds only.

“Individuals interested in going bald are required to raise a minimum of RM300, with the opportunity to shave in front of a live audience at two public events happening this year in June in Kuching and Miri,” she shared.

Dayang Juliana said this before launching SCCS’s signature annual awareness and fundraising campaign, GoBald 2023, at Vivacity Megamall, here today.

She said that the event is to raise funds in support of children battling childhood cancer and their families in Sarawak.

Dayang Julian added that the fundraising event’s theme this year “Dare to Dream”, aims to encourage children with cancer and childhood cancer survivors to have the courage to dream big, look ahead with optimism and set long-term life goals.

Later, at the launch event, two courageous parents went bald in support of their children with cancer.

In sharing their brief story about the disease, parent Mohammad Alfaizal said he is very supportive of SCCS and their effort to help people like him and his family.

“I have mixed feeling about the cancer awareness programme like this but I am glad I joined it as for now my eldest child, my 15-year-old son, is receiving medical treatment and is recuperating well after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

Meanwhile, Gill Jekiam who also went bald, is glad that his daughter is doing well after receiving medical treatment after having been diagnosed with early stage leukaemia, and is leading a normal life.

“But she is still seeing the doctors for routine check-up,” he said.

SCCS hoped that the funds raised from GoBald 2023 will help ensure children with cancer get access to integrated and improved care, treatment and facilities they need to get better to pursue their dreams.
