KAPIT, Aug 3: A seven-year-old girl died after being hit by a car at a night street market here around 7.30pm last night.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, who confirmed the case, revealed that the deceased Damia Alyana Daniel Sham from Betong succumbed to severe head injuries at the Kapit Hospital at 3am today.

Her sister Afia Ismahani Daniel Sham, 5, suffered light injuries on her head, while another pedestrian Olah Olah, 40, from Indonesia escaped unhurt.

“The accident took place at the night market’s car park, involving a 28-year-old woman from Nanga Merirai Baleh.

“The driver wanted to exit the car park but accidentally stepped on the accelerator causing the vehicle to go forward and rammed the three pedestrians in front,” Alexon said of the initial investigation.

Police also discovered that the lady driver was driving without a driver’s license.

She was also taken to the hospital for drug and alcohol test.
