Girl, 13, killed, friend injured after motorcycle collides with 4WD in Kanowit

KANOWIT, April 6: A teenage pillion rider was killed and her fellow rider critically injured after their motorcycle collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle on Bukit 19, Jalan Ngungun/ Nanga Ngemah near here yesterday evening.

In the 5.25pm incident, the victim, 13, perished at the scene while her friend, 16, was injured.

According to State Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, preliminary investigations revealed that the duo was traveling from Nanga Ngungun towards Nanga Ngemah when their ride collided with a Toyota Hilux driven by a 51-year-old man heading from Kapit to Kanowit.


The impact of the collision threw both girls from the motorcycle onto the road while the motorcycle ended up on the left side of the road to Kanowit.

“The unconscious rider was sent to Nanga Ngungun Health Clinic to receive treatment. The deceased however was pronounced dead by a Sibu Hospital assistant medical officer of Sibu Hospital who happened upon the scene on his way to Kapit.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987. — DayakDaily
