GEDONG, July 30: Mahkota Dewa Gedong was crowned ‘Raja Sungai’ (King of the River) of Gedong Regatta 2023.
The champion rowers brought home the ‘Premier of Sarawak’ trophy and cash prize of RM15,000 after finishing ahead of its rivals in the 2.3km-long river race with a record of 8 minutes and 58 seconds.
In second and third places were Sinaran Ratu Siska (9 minutes and 5 seconds) and Madinah Race Team (MRT) Gedong (9 minutes and 6 seconds) which secured RM7,000 and RM5,000, respectively.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was present to witness the final leg of the race and presented the prizes to the winners afterwards at the Batang Kerang riverbank near Kampung Kanchong Jaya here today.
Also present were Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic and Development Planning) Datu Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel; Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee; Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris; and Sarawak Premier’s special representative in Gedong and former assemblyman, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.
Abang Johari who is the current Gedong assemblyman is expected to also grace the closing ceremony for Gedong Festival 2023 at Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali, Gedong tonight.
