KUCHING, March 19: The second edition of the Gedong Festival will be held from July 25 to 27, 2025, with the aim of positioning Gedong as Sarawak’s premier destination for regatta sports and boosting its appeal as a domestic tourism hotspot.
The festival is expected to be officially launched by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, according to Gedong District Officer Tamida Da’adi in a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
“This festival seeks to elevate Gedong’s profile as a key location for regatta events in Sarawak, while also promoting local products such as handicrafts and agricultural produce, especially fruits,” Tamida said after chairing a meeting to form the festival’s working committee today.
He added that the festival also aims to position Gedong as a featured destination in the Samarahan Division Tourism Calendar.
Over 20 exciting activities are planned to enliven the three-day event, including regatta races, a battle of the bands, petanque competitions, traditional games like beremak pantey and batak lampung, as well as esports tournaments.
Tamida said the recent meeting focused on finalising the programme lineup and budgeting for each activity.
The Gedong Festival is also expected to enhance the district’s position in the tourism sector while generating business opportunities for the local community. — DayakDaily
