SERIAN, Aug 29: There is no sign of Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem relinquishing his candidacy for the seat in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
He said he is both physically and mentally fit to contest in the coming 15th General Election (GE) to continue serving the people.
“I’m not quoting neither Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman who is the Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Datuk Abang Johari Tun Open) nor our party (Sarawak United Peoples’ Party) president Dato Sri (Dr) Sim Kui Hian, but yes I’ll still be around (this election),” he said told reporters, here today.
“Not only am I still fit, but am also confident of winning the seat for GPS, so I’ll still be around,” Riot, who has been the Serian MP for seven terms, asserted.
Riot, who is the Special Envoy to South Korea, Taiwan and Japan was present at a Thinking Lab for Serian Masterplan briefing at Serian Administrative Complex, officiated at by Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn.
He pointed out that he will not want to offer himself if he is not confident of winning the seat.
“I don’t want to be overconfident (because I don’t want to be), but I feel stronger than for the 2016 general election,” he stressed.
Asked further whether the party president has ‘whispered’ to him as the candidate, he reiterated, “Suffice to say I’ll still be around and you can read between the lines.”
Riot in the last election won by 9,905-vote majority in a three-cornered fight. — DayakDaily
