[UPDATE] Abang Johari declares Nov 18 and 19 as public holidays in Sarawak

Update: The Office of the Premier of Sarawak has clarified that Nov 19 will also be a public holiday. 

SIBU, Nov 15: Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has declared Nov 18 and 19 as public holidays in Sarawak to allow the people to travel home to vote in the 15th General Election (GE15).


He made this announcement during a press conference after the opening ceremony of Tanjung Manis Administration Centre here today.

“After a discussion with the Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Patinggi Ismail Sabri Yaakob (during an official function) in Selangau yesterday (Nov 14), the Prime Minister has declared a special public holiday on Nov 18 and 19 so that voters can return to their hometowns to cast their votes.”

Sarawak will also declare a holiday on Nov 18 and 19.

Yesterday (Nov 14), Ismail Sabri announced that Nov 18 and 19 have been declared as public holidays to encourage people to return to vote in GE15. — DayakDaily
