SIBU, April 28: It will be a four-cornered fight in Bandar Sibu with defending Pakatan Harapan-Democratic Action Party (PH-DAP) candidate Oscar Ling facing challengers Datuk Andrew Wong of Barisan Nasional-Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (BN-SUPP), Simon Tiong Ing Tung of State Reform Party (Star) and Jamie Tiew from Sarawak Peace Party (SPP).

Oscar was able to defend Bandar Sibu in the 2013 general election with a majority of 2,841 votes against BN candidate Datuk Vincent Lau who polled 23,967 votes as well as an independent, Narawi Haron who garnered only 203 votes.

Andrew of SUPP is a new face but not a stranger to Sibu constituents as is a former Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman and one of the key persons responsible for setting up United College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) in the town.

Simon, who is Star secretary-general is not an election newcomer. He stood against BN-Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Dr Annuar Rapaee in a three-cornered fight in the 2016 state election at Nangka. He garnered 773 votes against Dr Annuar’s 9,617.

Meanwhile, Jamie, 47, from SPP was formerly a United People’s Party (UPP) member. She left UPP in 2016 after more than two decades as a BN supporter. — DayakDaily
