KUCHING, July 1: The Gawai celebration should not only be a time to honour the harvest but a motivation to work together for the benefit of future generations, says Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Cr Tan Kai.
Delivering his speech during the ‘Majlis Rumah Terbuka Gawai Peringkat MPP 2025’ held at the MPP foyer today, Tan Kai urged the community to reflect on the deeper meaning of Gawai and renew their shared commitment to shaping a better future for Padawan.
“Let Gawai not only be a celebration of what we have harvested, but a motivation to work together for what we will sow for the generations ahead,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of continued efforts in building a sustainable and inclusive future through multiple avenues.
“As we share the food and festivities this afternoon, let us also renew our collective commitment to shape a better future for Padawan—through education, environmental stewardship, cultural preservation, and sustainable development,” he emphasised.
Tan Kai added that the celebration is not just about recognising what has been achieved, but also a moment for reflection on future responsibilities.
“This celebration is not just about what we have achieved — it is also a moment to reflect on what more we can do.
“Whether it’s protecting the environment, supporting our youth, or working together towards a sustainable and harmonious future, each of us has a role to play,” he said.
Tan Kai also extended heartfelt thanks to the organising committee, MPP staff, and all participating agencies for making the Gawai celebration a success.
Among those present at the event were Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, Senator Dato Ahmad Ibrahim, Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Lo Khere Chiang, and Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap. — DayakDaily
