Gardener fined, jailed for hurting, threatening to kill wife

KUCHING, Aug 19: The Magistrate’s Court here sentenced a gardener to a jail term of four weeks and fined RM2,000 on charges of hurting and threatening his wife, who he suspected was having an affair with another man.

Anthony Seli Satan, 26, from Batu Niah, pleaded guilty to both charges before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

He was sentenced to a jail term of two weeks and fined RM1,000 for each charge. Magistrate Syarifah ordered both imprisonment terms to run concurrently.

For the first charge, he was found to have voluntarily caused hurt to his 19-year-old wife by slapping her face and right arm, pushing her chest, and threatening to kill her at a budget hotel in Kota Sentosa at about 2am on August 15.

For the act of voluntarily causing hurt to his wife, he was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 326A of the same Code.

As for threatening to kill his wife, he was charged under Section 506 of the same Code.

According to the brief facts of the case, the accused acted aggressively and hurt the victim after he read WhatsApp messages between the victim and the other man.
