Garbage belongs in rubbish bins, says MPKS chairman

KUCHING, June 10: Garbage belongs in the rubbish bins, said Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), as it urges residents to be more civic-minded by not throwing rubbish indiscriminately, including on roadsides and in drains, streams, and rivers.

MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos said it requires all hands on deck to adopt the clean culture and keep Samarahan clean.

“We want to support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which seeks to make the world clean and safe for humanity. The least we can do is keep our town clean and green.

“Thus, MPKS once again appeal to all in Samarahan to not throw your waste and rubbish indiscriminately and do not dump bulk waste illegally,” he said at a special ‘gotong-royong’ programme organised by MPKS held at Farley Supermarket compound today.

He also called on the people of Samarahan to utilise their bins.

“Remember that rubbish thrown everywhere is an eyesore and unsightly, and it also attracts rats, flies and ants that are disease carriers. It makes our place unhealthy and unsafe,” he added.

He also informed that MPKS would do the gotong-royong exercise to clean the town as an annual event.

“The next round, we will do it (gotong-royong) in Asajaya and Sadong Jaya towns and other places in Samarahan,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
