Gain insight into issues concerning electoral reform and academic freedom at Unimas’ forums

KUCHING,Sept 13: University Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Academic Staff Association (PPAU) will be organising two forums, ‘Electoral Reform: How Far Are We?’ and ‘From Academia to Putrajaya’, on Sept 18 and 19 respectively.

The first forum ‘Electoral Reform: How Far Are We?’ to discuss changes that have taken place since the appointment of a new team of Election Commissioners last year, will be held on Sept 18 at Harbour View Hotel here starting at 7.30pm.

This forum would feature Malaysia Election Commission deputy chairperson Dr Azmi Sharom and Election Commissioner Dr Mohd Faisal Syam Hazis.

PPAU, in a media release today, urged the public to participate in the forum as it is a good platform to gain insight into matters about the Malaysia electoral systems and the electoral reform.

The second forum entitled ‘From Academia to Putrajaya’ will be held on Sept 19 at Dewan Syarahan, Tun Abang Salahuddin Islamic Centre in Unimas, Kota Samarahan here starting at 10am.

Co-organised with Malaysian Academic Movement (MOVE), the forum specially for the campus community would discuss about academic freedom.

This forum would feature three former academics and public intellectuals who have served in key positions at various agencies in Putrajaya.

All three speakers will share their experiences as academics and public intellectuals in their professional capacity.— DayakDaily
