Funeral wake for Dominic Andrew Dago Randan to be held at Kampung Pichin, Serian residence

KUCHING, May 15: Prominent Bidayuh politician and community leader Datuk Amar Dominic Andrew Dago Randan’s funeral wake will be held at his residence at No.1 Kampung Pichin, Serian starting today until Sunday before proceeding to the funeral on Monday.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 19, at 9am at the Trinitas Kudus Church Kampung Pichin, followed by his burial at Kampung Pichin Cemetery.

Dago passed away early this morning at the age of 91 due to natural causes. He is survived by his wife, Datin Amar Mary Margaret Lenuh, and their six children—three sons and three daughters.

A pioneer and key figure in Sarawak’s political history, Dago played a pivotal role in the formation of Malaysia in 1963, particularly in rallying support from the Bidayuh community.

He was the first MP for Serian and concurrently as the assemblyman for Upper Sadong District for a term.

After he retired from active politics, he continued to serve the government and the Bidayuh community in various capacities including as political secretary to the Chief Minister and as a Temenggung for the Bidayuh Community.

He was a member of the Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC), chairman of Public Service Commission (1971-1973), president of DBNA (1973-1975), Temenggong traditional leader within Dayak Bidayuh Community. He was also the founder of St Dominic primary school Kampung Pichin and first headmaster in 1955.

For his vast contributions for the community as well as for Sarawak government, he was awarded with the third highest honourary – the DA which carries the title of Datuk Amar in 2019.

For his contribution for the Formation of Malaysia he was bestowed with Anugerah Tokoh 1Malaysia in 2009 and Pengasas Perjuangan Kemerdekaan and the special gold medal in conjunction with the Diamond Jubilee of Sarawak’s Independence. – DayakDaily
