MIRI, July 12: A 6km fun run event will be held on Sept 21 to mark the completion of the Long Lama Bridge.

Dubbed the “Long Lama Bridge Fun Run 1.0 2019”, the event aimed to attract 500 keen runners from Miri and surrounding areas including Long Lama and Telang Usan.

“It is our way to say ‘thank you’ to the Sarawak government,” Telang Usan district officer Baru Tai told a press conference here today.

Miri resident Mastapa Julaihi and Penghulu Desmond Yap were present.

The 573-metre double lane bridge, costing RM67 million, was completed and opened to the public in April this year. The project was fully funded by the state government.

“We hope the fun run could help promote the Long Lama route through the newly completed bridge. The main objective of the event is to let the people know that Long Lama has a bridge, which connects the town to Miri,” Yap said.

He added that the run will flag off at SJKC Kee Tee hall at 6.30am. The route will pass Telang Usan district office and returning to the school.

Long Lama, situated about a hour and 45 minutes’ drive from Miri city, is a small town with a population of 500 people. The town was established in 1905.

Prior to the completion of the bridge, the town folks had been using ferry services.

The fun run is open to all, with early bird rate at RM55 until Aug 8. Registered participants will be entitled to a free T-shirt.

“Registration forms for the event can be obtained at the Miri and Telang Usan district offices,” Yap said.

The closing date is Aug 16. For enquiries, do contact Yap 019-8149111. — DayakDaily
