KUCHING, Dec 2: The free school bus service for Kuching is expected to start in April or May next year.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the Sarawak government is still planning and confirming the routes and stops for the free service which will benefit school children in Kuching.

Apart from that, he also reminded Sarawakians of the different kinds of aids by the state government to help them cope with the cost of utilities under Sarawak Budget 2020.

“We are giving free water to everyone, whose water bill did not exceed RM5.

“If the water bill is below RM5, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government will responsible for this subsidy,” he added, when met at the launching ceremony of the new Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) Sarawak branch headquarters here this morning.

According to Abang Johari, there are some households, which do not use water frequently and will be entitled to free water as long as the water bill does not exceed RM5.

“And for electricity, connection charges are expensive,” he noted.

“Usually this connection charge will cost at least RM5,000, where the technician from Sarawak Energy connects the electric power from the utility pole to the house.”

However, the connection fee is free if the cost is under RM5,000. GPS will handle 70 per cent of the fee if the electric connection charges are over RM5,000 (but below RM10,000).

“By doing so, it will be a great help in reducing the cost of owning a house for the people of Sarawak.” — DayakDaily
