KUCHING, Oct 3: A free anti-rabies vaccination programme, featuring subsidised neutering for dogs, will be held at the Indoor Basketball Court in Lorong 3 Taman Seng Goon this Saturday (Oct 5), from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
Jointly organised by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak, the event will also offer free licensing registration and microchipping services.
Dog owners are reminded that their pets must be vaccinated against rabies once a year.
Subsidised neutering is available for female dogs, with a subsidy of RM150 per animal, limited to the first 100 MBKS-licensed and vaccinated female dogs.
Dog owners bringing their pets for vaccination are advised to bring their MyKad and the pet’s vaccination card, if available.
It is essential to ensure that pets are healthy, over three months old, and not pregnant to qualify for vaccination.
After vaccination, dogs should be quarantined and isolated for 28 days to allow immunity against rabies to develop.
During this period, do not allow the dog to interact with other animals of unknown vaccination status, and avoid bathing the dog for at least one week.
Pet owners are also reminded to keep their dogs on a leash in public places and prevent them from roaming freely.
All pets should be kept securely within the house compound under effective control at all times. — DayakDaily
