Four Sarawakian students win NILAM 2022 team championship

KUCHING, July 27: Four Sarawakian students have been crowned champions at Anugerah NILAM Kebangsaan 2022 (Team Category) recently.

According to a press statement, the four students are Timothea Clarissa Sambai Enteri from SMK Kidurong, Bintulu; Bruchel Ryud Gilbert from SMK Lundu, Lundu; Caroline Hii Song Ting from SMK Chung Hua Miri, Miri and Shana Elizabeth Law Shen Yee from SMK Batu Lintang, Kuching.


It is understood that this is the first time a team from Sarawak has achieved top podium finish in this national competition.

This year’s competition saw 42 winners crowned across various categories with winners receiving trophies and cash prizes from Ministry of Education (Policy and Curriculum Sector) deputy director Dato Pkharuddin Ghazali.

NILAM or ‘Nadi Ilmu Amalan Membaca’ is a programme introduced by the Education Ministry at the primary and secondary school levels to inculcate reading habits among students when they are still young.

Meanwahile, Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian on a social media post congratulated the winning Sarawakian team.

He highlighted that Shana’s brother had won at NILAM Kebangsaan in the individual category previously and also SMK Batu Lintang Kuching teacher Ho Jia Yiing for informing him of the achievement when their paths crossed at at KLIA Express recently.

“My experience with St Joseph School Band, teamwork is not easy as it needs minimum ‘four wheels traveling at the same speed’,” said Dr Sim.

The four wheels or the four criteria he believed contributed to the winning were talented students, committed and dedicated teachers and schools, passionate parents and funding. — DayakDaily
