SIBU, Oct 16: The construction of four new parking lots in front of SMK Deshon is expected to overcome traffic congestion when parents send and pick up their children.

Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang said the RM175,000 parking lot is one of the projects under his constituency’s 2022 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

He said the project would take a month to complete and that no parking fees would be charged to users even after the handover of the parking lot to Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

Meanwhile, he assured that more RTP projects would be channelled to SMK Deshon to benefit teachers and students.

Tiang, who is also Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, said there are plans to set up a roofed pedestrian walk and a new entrance for the school.

He said all these projects are aimed at easing traffic congestion at SMK Deshon, which has affected even business operations in the vicinity.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Tiang was with SMC chairman Clarence Ting when he handed over the parking lot project to the contractor on Friday (Oct 14). — DayakDaily
