Four nabbed in Serian for suspected involvement in drugs activities

KUCHING, Jan 25: A total of four individuals were arrested by the police in Serian for being allegedly involved in drugs activities during “Ops Bersepadu” today.

Serian District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis, in a press statement, said all four male suspects, aged between 28 to 49 years, were arrested during a raid conducted in Serian by a team of Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCIC) personnel from Serian district police.

According to Aswandy, the first suspect was arrested at an unnumbered house in Kampung Siniawan, where he was believed to have been involved in drugs.

“Upon inspection on the suspect’s sling bag, police found one transparent plastic packet containing 15 transparent plastic packet with crystallise substances believed to be methamphetamine with an estimated weight of 7.20 gram and the case is being investigated under Section 39(a)(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1957.

“At about 8 am, on the same day, the police arrested one other individual at the backyard of a house in Kampung Jaya Ria.

“After a body check, police found a green-coloured tin can on the suspect pant’s pocket, containing one transparent plastic packet with a crystallise substance believed to be methamphetamine weighing about 0.3 gram. The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952” he said.

Aswandy noted, during the same operation, two other individuals were also arrested in both Kampung Seniawan and Kampung Jaya Ria after they were believed to have been involved in drug activities.

He said all of the suspects were brought to the Serian district police NCID office for further action and a preliminary urine test conducted by the police found that all four suspects are positive for methamphetamine.

“All of the cases are being investigated under Section 39(a)(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1957 and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for the possession of drugs, and Section 15(1) (a) of the same act.

“The total street value of the seized drugs are estimated to be around RM1,125 and it was believed to be distributed in Serian district,” he added.

On the same note, Aswandy assured that Serian district police will conduct the “Ops Bersepadu” continuously in order to curb drug activities in Serian.

He also called on members of the public to continue cooperating with the police and to channel any information regarding drug activities in the Serian district.

“I hope that the local community are aware of the problem caused by drug abuse, especially in villages, and they should not hesitate to channel the information to the police,” he said. –DayakDaily
