Four more medical staff infected with Covid-19, total rises to 166

KUCHING, Feb 9: Four more medical personnel have been infected with Covid-19, pushing the total number of cases among healthcare workers in the State to 166 so far this year.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC)’s daily Covid-19 report, out of the four cases reported today, two are from Miri District.

The remaining two cases are from public healthcare facilities in Sibu and Bintulu respectively.


State Health Department Dr Chin Zin Hing disclosed today that of the 162 Covid-19 cases among medical staff recorded between January and Feb 8 (yesterday), 75 of them have recovered.

Based on findings from investigations, he explained, the majority of the cases or 44.1 per cent were infected via the community while 38.2 per cent were infected by colleagues while 17.6 per cent from other patients.

To ensure the safety of healthcare staff on the frontlines of the Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Chin emphasised that advice and directives have been disseminated internally to reinforce safety procedures.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported yesterday that five healthcare staff had tested positive for Covid-19 while on Feb 7, three cases were reported for this category of workers.

Cases of healthcare staff infected with Covid-19 have been reported at all four major hospitals in Sarawak, namely Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), Miri Hospital, Sibu Hospital and Bintulu Hospital.

With Covid-19 also spreading to more rural areas of late, healthcare facilities as far as Song, Kanowit and Kapit have also reported cases for this category of workers. ā€” DayakDaily
