Four men arrested for stealing Telekom cables in Miri, test positive for drugs

KUCHING, Oct 18: Police have arrested four local men for allegedly stealing Telekom Malaysia (TM) cables at Jalan Setia Raja in Miri yesterday (Oct 17).

Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said a police report was lodged by a TM technician at 11am after discovering the theft.

Acting swiftly, police detained the suspects, aged between 31 and 36, on the same day.

During the arrest, police also seized several items including stolen cables, a chain block, cable-cutting tools and a vehicle believed to have been used in the crime.

“A police investigation paper has been opened under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft of TM property.

“All four suspects were remanded today (Oct 18) to assist with investigations,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Farhan added that all four suspects tested positive for drugs following urine tests.

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the cable theft to contact the Miri District Police Headquarters at 085-433730 or the investigating officer Sergeant Kristee Andrew Sammy at 010-8244788.
