Four local men fined RM3,000 for brawling in front of 24h convenience store at Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong

KUCHING, June 14: Four local men involved in a brawl in front of a 24-hour convenience store last Sunday (June 26) were each fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today.

Bryan Fong Hung Xuan, 21, Michael Entalang Lium, 27, Sim Chit Sin, 31, and Lee Khai Sieng, 36, pleaded guilty to a charge read together before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.

According to the charge, they were accused of jointly engaging in a riot using weapons, namely a Japanese sword and knives, in front of a 24-hour convenience store on Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong at around 1am on June 9.

All the accused were charged under Section 148 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code.

Based on the brief facts of the case, during the incident, the complainant – a police officer -along with his colleague were on a crime prevention patrol when they encountered all the accused engaged in a fight.

As a result of the incident, one victim sustained injuries to the back of his head and to his fingers on his right hand.

The fight was successfully broken up, and the weapons used were confiscated, including a Hyundai Atos vehicle.

Investigations revealed that all the accused had committed an offense under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting.

The case was prosecuted by Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang, while Bryan Fong was represented by lawyer Russell Lim, and Khai Sieng was represented by lawyer Patrick Voon.

The other two accused were unrepresented. — DayakDaily
