Operation commander Awang Iskandar Rasyid Awang Seruji said the fire involved four separate premises — a car repair workshop, a furniture factory, a refrigerator repair shop and a scrap-metal processing facility.

“Upon arrival, we found the car workshop about 40 per cent destroyed. The furniture factory and the refrigerator repair shop each suffered about 70 per cent damage, while the scrap-metal facility recorded roughly 20 per cent destruction,” he said in a statement.

Each unit is estimated to measure about 70 by 40 square feet.

A total of 23 firefighters and four engines — three Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) trucks and one water tanker — were involved in the operation.

As of press time, firefighters were still conducting extinguishing and overhaul works to fully control the blaze and prevent further spread.

Police were also present at the scene to assist with traffic and safety coordination. – DayakDaily
