Former Sarawak, Sabah footballer Bobby Chua dies aged 55

KOTA KINABALU, 14 March: A former football player for the Sabah and Sarawak state teams, Bobby Chua Abdullah has passed away here at 2.25pm today.

The news of his passing was conveyed by his wife Zafidah Yaakub in a Facebook post at 3.40pm the same evening.

“Assalamualaikum, my beloved husband Bobby Chua Abdullah has returned to God at approximately 2.25pm this afternoon.


“InsyaAllah, his body would be brought to Surau Al Mustafa V19 KKIP, Barat Sepanggar here for funeral management followed by burial at Tanah Pengkebumian Waqaf Kampung Kota near Kota Tuaran Mosque,” she wrote.

In previous media reports, the Inanam-born football player was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare neurological disease that paralyse every muscle in the body gradually.

Bobby was 55-years-old at the time of his death.

The late Bobby started his career as a professional footballer since 1994 and played for the Sabah team until 1998.

He then migrated to Sarawak and played with the Bujang Senang squad until 2004. He even made captain of the squad at one point. — DayakDaily
