KUCHING, April 6: Former Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Administration), Datu Buckland Bangik, today took his oath as a member of the Sarawak Ombudsman, following his appointment which took effect on March 2, 2026.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the oath-taking ceremony was conducted before High Court Judge Yang Arif Tuan Dean Wayne Daly, in line with the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023, which mandates all Ombudsman members to take the oath before assuming office.
Sarawak Ombudsman Chief, Dato Sri Abdul Ghafur Shariff, said Datu Buckland’s appointment completes the minimum five-member quorum of the office, which can have up to seven members.
“Today marks an important milestone as we have now reached the minimum quota of five Ombudsman members, although the maximum allowed is seven,” he was quoted as saying after the ceremony.
The Ombudsman continues to play a vital role in handling public complaints and overseeing State government ministries, departments, and government-linked companies (GLCs).
Two other Ombudsman members, Albert Tang Yew Liong and Toieyah Tioh, were also present at the ceremony. — DayakDaily
