Former assistant cook sentenced to 3 months’ jail for stealing chicken meat and eggs

KUCHING, Nov 9: A former assistant cook was sentenced to three months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for stealing 40 kilograms of raw chicken and 10 boards of chicken eggs belonging to a resort in Santubong last October.

Mohamad Hasif Mohamad Muhazam, 22, from Kampung Santubong, pleaded guilty to a charge read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.

He was charged with committing the offence at a prominent resort here between 4.26am and 4.30am on October 23 under Section 381 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to seven years and is liable to a fine if found guilty.


Zubaidah ordered the defendant to serve the jail term with effect from today.

According to the facts of the case, the complainant who worked in the resort’s human resources department found an employee moving items from the main kitchen storage, pushing a trolley to a gas storage area.

An investigation found that the accused had taken several kitchen items including 40 kilograms of raw chicken and 10 boards of chicken eggs to sell. The estimated loss suffered by the resort was around RM643.

The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the defendant was not represented by a lawyer. — DayakDaily
