KUCHING, May 27: Police have arrested a 34-year-old foreign woman suspected of engaging in prostitution following an Ops Noda raid at a lodging premises along Jalan Stutong here.
Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the operation was carried out at about 1.08pm on Tuesday (May 26) by officers from the D7 Branch, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters.
“During the raid, police detained the suspect to assist investigations and seized several items believed to be linked to the activity, including a mobile phone, condoms, and other related paraphernalia.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly used the Michat application to advertise sexual services and attract clients,” he said in a statement today.
She is believed to have been active for about two months, offering services at rates ranging between RM180 and RM250 per session.
The case is being investigated under Section 372(1)(e) of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment of up to 15 years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.
She is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for allegedly failing to produce valid travel documents or a valid pass to remain in Malaysia. If convicted, the offence carries a fine of up to RM10,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, and may also include whipping.
Alexson said police will continue to intensify enforcement operations against immoral and illegal activities to safeguard public safety and maintain order in the State. — DayakDaily
